During the 8th anniversary of the Formula Student China (FSC) organization, Beihang University’s AERO team celebrated a decisive victory using their premiered retrofitted electric car at the first annual Formula Student Autonomous China (FSAC) competition. In recent years, the direction of electric vehicles has been trending towards a new technological state of autonomy, or “self-driving.” Beihang University is one of the few top universities in the FSAC to participate in, not only both traditional fossil-fuel and electric vehicle competitions, but now also the “unmanned” vehicle movement. Thus, the team required a higher level of technology to back up its demands; the hardware and software needed to be functionally integrated with high complexity to ensure stable operation of electronic product. Chroma Electronics provided the university’s AERO team with professional testing equipment and experiences to assist in achieving its electronic vehicle development plans and to improve the overall unmanned vehicle campaign.
The development of electric vehicles is one of China’s most important growth strategies, driving both the battery and energy storage industries.
Chroma’s automatic test systems (ATS) offer a wide range of AC/DC power supplies, electronic loads, and electrical safety tools to test EV/HEV related parts and equipment. Chroma’s multifunctional ATS can also be applied to power electronic devices like EVSEs, car chargers, DC/DC converters, motor drivers, etc. In addition, the system validates the high-voltage parts, checking the charging circuit and the potential equalization of the automotive body for electric cars. A powerful software testing tool is provided to help integrate the DC power supplies and electronic loads in order to perform necessary tests on the battery storage system.
Furthermore, the Formula SAE Electric Racecar competition, hosted by SAE International, nurtures future talents in China’s new energy automotive industry. Chroma Electronics has been a part of China’s new energy industry for years while supporting the social responsibility of shouldering numerous formula student electric team endeavors. Chroma’s multiple test solutions have received recognition from China’s energy industry and academia as well by helping customers identify the potential risks during the design verification process. Chroma’s solutions correct these product problems in order to accelerate the R&D process and to propel new business opportunities.
